Day 5: Isle of Skye (aka the 15 hour day)

I’ve been delayed in posting. The 15 hour day killed me!  We set out at 7:30 am to get to the Eileen Donan Castle.  It was beautiful (although still trying to figure out who carlos the ghost was).

The odd thing about this castle is that the current owner keeps updated family photos and such so it’s a mix of centuries old artifacts blended with current day pictures.  Also, no pictures allowed inside but here are some shots from outside.

You know I love a good sign!

Once we left the castle, we were off to Isle of Skye!
On the way we finally saw some Highland Coo!  And I’m pretty sure everyone who stopped to see them thought we were raving lunatics because we were all screaming “OH MY GOD,COO…COOO” at the top of our lungs as we screeched to a halt on the side of the road!

Evidence we really were on this trip together!

Once we left the coo it was off to Portree.   The town has the beautiful seaside, multi color houses.  As I was the driver I couldn’t get out (parking in the area was rough); so Lisa and Krissy jumped out to grab pictures I’ll have to post later.

From there, we headed to Old Man of Storr.   It’s a series of rocks jutting out.  We likened it to seeing old man of the mountain.

From here, we moved on to Lealt Falls.  The greenery around was phenomenal!

When you try to do a time delayed picture in a grayish day…

I love a good warning sign!

From here, we moved  on to Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls. We didn’t see any whales or dolphins but it was still amazing.

Krissy’s feet are not as big as a dinosaur 🦕
After this we drove over to An Corran Beach.  On the way in we saw cows hanging out on the beach!  We couldn’t stop, but we did stop on the way out!  Lisa and I climbed down the rocks where you were supposed to be able to find dinosaurs foot prints.  We found one that may have been but, as we we climbing down a cliff, we left our bags (and cameras) with Krissy at the top. 🙄

Seeing cows lounging on a beach made it worth it!

After this, we headed to Fairy Glenn.  The walk along the path was nice.

This is the rock spiral.  You lay down a rock at the end then start at the beginning and walk out. When you get back to your rock, you make a wish. We didn’t know this but a tour guide clued is in.
There is no shortage of sheep in this country!

After Fairy Glenn we headed for Neist Point. Along the way we stopped for some pictures.

A sheep causing a traffic jam!
Grover finally got out of the car!

You can’t tell from this picture, but it’s a steep walk down!  Every review said it’s not easy…we should have listened!  I also didn’t realize it was over 1.5 miles to get out there (again, it doesn’t look it, but it’s pretty far out). Glad we made it down to see the lighthouse though (and shocked we were able to climb back up!  Lol).

Hard to tell here, as I was taking the picture out my window, but, we’re all stopped here because the sheep decided to cross the road!  Once the crossed, our side of traffic had to back up so the other traffic could come down and pass. Note: the moron in front of me does not know how to drive 😣

I should have mentioned, the reason the day took so long is because a lot of it is one lane roads with “passing paces”. So, if a car is coming towards you, if the passing place is on your side, you pull in and let them pass.  As you can imagine, there’s lots of reversing if someone comes along and the closer passing place is behind you!  So a 15 mile drive could take well over an hour.

We drove over to the Fairy Pools but realized it takes about 2.5 hours to walk in and back.  As it was getting late, we decided to drive home.

This is the beginning of the walk in.

Now the thing about Scotland is everything closes early.  We tried stopping at a couple places around 9pm and they already had closed those kitchens. We ended up having fruit and veg when we got back to the house around 10:30.

I forgot to post about the converted abbey we stayed in at the Highland Club in Loch Ness.

Complete with its own life-sized chess board!

Even with all the driving, we still managed to get our steps in!

And this is why I told Lisa Grover can’t ride up front (unless she’s willing to give up her seat and sit in back).

Day 8: Glamis Castle and St. Andrews

Shocker, but we were up and out of the house early this morning!  We headed out to Glamis Castle in Forfar. It was the child hood home of Q...
